Physics In the Real World
Log into our classroom Instagram site:
Each semester, there are about 6-7 different units that are covered within Mechanics, Dynamics, Electricity and Magnetism, Light and Optics, and Modern Physics.
During this first unit on Linear Motion, be on the look-out for examples of this physics topic occurring in the world around you. (For example, during Newton's Laws, it is easy to find examples of Newton's Third Law. Action/Reaction. A baseball being hit by a bat, someone pushing a shopping cart, a wrestling match, etc...)
Take pictures of that example and tag it with the unit we are studying and a specific tag of the vocabulary or topic itself.
Make comments about each other's pictures and browse other peoples pictures/ideas and learn from other students examples.
My hope is that you begin to see that physics is everywhere!
Taking this one step further, if we are doing an experiment within that unit, I ask that you take pictures of that lab and add it to the collection. This could become a sort of "scrap book" of ideas for us to refer back to and remember what they learned.
To tie in Twitter, tag famous physicists who are on Twitter and send the photos with his or her Twitter handle with hopes of them commenting and starting a conversation within our little classroom. Bringing the real world into the classroom and making connections!
